Why pop matters more than price
Most collectors watch price. Smart collectors watch population. Why? Because PSA pop is the leading indicator — the data point that moves before price reacts. When submissions spike on a card you own, your slab is about to face fresh supply.
This week's report covers five cards where 30-day submissions cleared 15% over their trailing average.
1. Charizard ex SIR · Scarlet & Violet 151
Not a surprise — this is one of the most-cracked-and-graded cards of the era. The pop curve hasn't slowed since the set's release, but recent weeks accelerated. Read: PSA 10 prices have softened modestly. Wait for a flush before adding.
2. Umbreon VMAX Alt Art · Evolving Skies
Moonbreon's perpetual squeeze. With raw copies still trading at $1,400+ and grader confidence high, submissions stay constant. Recent uptick is modest but worth flagging. Read: the graded premium is well-defended — pop pressure rarely bites this card.
3. Pikachu V Union · Crown Zenith
The unexpected entry. A surge in raw availability after Crown Zenith reprints reached secondary inventory has pushed grading volume. Read: PSA 10 supply will rise meaningfully. Sell into strength if you've been sitting on multiple copies.
4. Lugia Neo Genesis 1st Edition
A vintage pop spike is unusual — and almost always tied to a major collection coming out of long-term storage. We saw a similar pattern with vintage Charizard in 2022 before a six-month price softening. Read: holders should be patient; this isn't structural demand.
5. Iono SIR · Paldea Evolved
Trainer SIRs that get pop spikes typically rerate up after the spike clears. Raw is stable around $260 and the grader pipeline is working through a launch backlog more than processing fresh raw inventory. Read: monitor, don't react.
